On this album you will hear powerful and tender women’s vocals accompanied by traditional and contemporary instruments. The songs describe Latvian winter solstice traditions: from joyful, noisy mummery to contemplations inviting God to sit among the people during the festive meal. “Vecpilsētas dziedātāji” – “the Oldtown Singers” are a group of students from Riga, who express their musical and global feel using formulas from traditional Latvian folk songs.
