Description
The folk songs of the Ludza Estonians form a unique part of Latgale’s diverse cultural history and are as important a part of the heritage of southern Estonian folklore. They contain unique elements of archaic Balto-Finnic speech as well as the ludza dialect of Estonian. Some of the Balto-Finnic folk songs sung by the Ludza Estonians have also preserved archaic forms of Finnish and Karelian words.
