Associated Professor Rūta Muktupāvela was born in Kaunas, Lithuania, but lives for many years in Latvia. She is rector of the Latvian Culture Academy, folklore researcher and musician. She has participated in many musical projects, has sung with Iļģi, her husband Valdis Muktupāvels and many other professional musicians.
