Ceidari, the folklore group of the Latgallian Students’ Centre, was born in the spring of 2013 and unites active young people of Latgallian heritage who live in the Latvian capital and who enjoy continuing the singing traditions of their native region. Most of the group’s repertoire comes from Rožupe, Bērzpils, Auleja, Bukmuiža, Šķilbēni, Preiļi and other localities in the eastern Latvian region of Latgale. These are, however, also supplemented with knowledge and songs from other parts of the country. The group’s friendship with singer-songwriter Kārlis Kazāks has resulted in a number of new arrangements and the popularising of Latgallian songs both in Latgale and elsewhere in Latvia.
