The ethnographic ensemble “Naktineica” is one of the oldest of its kind, singing together since 1953 the Sauna district of Preiļu region in Letgalia. It used to be a Kolchose Ensemble lead by Aleksandrs Vasiļevskis. They sing regional folksongs and participate in the international folklore festival Baltica in Latvia.
The generations of singers have changed, but the ensemble has never interrupted its singing. From 1966. to 2010 the leader was Jānis Teilāns, who worked on the improvement of the ethnographic way of singing and developed the local song repertoir. At the moment the leader of the group is Anita Fedotova. The aim of the group is to preserve and reach forward the local Latgalian heritage to the next generations.
