This book and album is dedicated to Ieviņas – the once most popular model of diatonic accordion in the Vidzeme region of Latvia. Even as recently as 50 years ago Ieviņas were played along with violins, zithers ans other musical instruments at every wedding and almost every dance party. On this CD the Oskara Patjanko kapella tried to record Ieviņas music the way it sounded in its heyday. The CD also includes recordings of two of the last known Ieviņas players.
The book contains the diploma research of the young ethnomusicologist Oskars Patjanko on the instrument and its players, its history, playing traditions and manufacture.
