Prof. Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga has academically researched Latvian folk songs and published her researches in many different languages, thus forming the understanding of both the Latvian and the international public about the Latvian traditional heritage. While being the President of the Latvian Republic at times she honoured folklore and folk songs.
