The ethnomusicologist Oskars Patjanko dedicated his diplomawork to research one particular regional type of accordion Ieviņas, collecting information about the instrument, the players, the repertoir and events, when they were played.
Oskars Patjanko plays himself a number of instruments – accordions, violin, base, tuba, kokles and bagpipes. He playes in the groups Maskačkas spēlmaņi and Jurginis and has also founded his own groups – Oskara Patjanko kapela, Balle pie rātnā zirdziņa a.o. He learned to play the violin from the Lithuanian folk-fiddler Jurģis Ukrins. He participates in the Riga Folkdance Club both as musician and dancer.
